How Hard Is Intensive Plumbing Training

The plumbing industry is currently in high demand and pays extremely well. You will need intensive plumbing training to become the best plumber you can be. The good news is you are able to do the majority of your plumbing training outside of the classroom. They range from DVD home study courses, to residential courses, to apprenticeship programs that will require 150 hours in the classroom a year with the majority of your learning coming from on-the-job work.

Steam and pipe fitters, standard residential or commercial plumbers, and pipe layers all have different varieties of methods they use to train. If you want to become a residential and commercial or industrial plumber they do their training in technical schools or community colleges. For some this will be a better option because they learn better in books then with hands on experience, but that does not mean those that like hands on experience will not like this form of learning. These intensive plumbing training classes usually have you get a lot of on-the-job training so you can apply what you learn in the classroom out in the field.

Steam and pipe fitters, commercial plumbers, and pipe layers usually get their training through apprenticeship programs. If you are not very good in the classroom but are very good in the real world, doing hands-on projects, this will benefit you greatly.

The apprenticeships are usually the best intensive plumbing training when it comes to seeing what the job will actually consist of. These programs are administered by labor unions and companies that affiliate with the unions.

Regardless if you are doing your apprenticeship through a union or not you can expect the apprenticeship plumbing training to take four to five years which is the average for a regular college or university. It is important to understand that you will not only have on the job training with the apprenticeship program, you will be required a minimum number of hours in a classroom. The subjects you will cover in the classroom will be varied and included topics on applied chemistry and physics, drafting basics, blue print reading, plumbing best practice, maths, plumbing and contracting safety, and legislated contracting and plumbing regulations.

Now you may have to do some hours in a classroom, but the majority of your apprenticeship will be on-the-job training. The on-the-job part of the intensive plumbing training will include some of the basic skills you will need such as being able to recognize the different types and grades of pipes, unloading plumbing materials safely, and using some of the essential plumbing tools. Those are some of the most basic parts of being a plumber. As you begin to progress in your experience of plumbing you will begin to learn how to install various plumbing fixtures, pipes, and piping systems.

You may be surprised but not all people are eligible for the apprenticeship program. To apply for the apprenticeship program you must be at least 18 years of age and be in good health. Also, some apprenticeship programs may require that the applicant have a minimum number of GCSE's to apply for the program.

If you are looking to apply for an intensive plumbing training program one of the best things you can do to get accepted is to have military plumbing training. In some cases the program will actually take the experience you have acquired for the military plumbing training and give you credit towards your apprenticeship program. Some of the other things you can do to get an advantage towards being accepted is to have training in drafting, computer skills, general math, physics, and the ability to read blue prints.

The plumbing industry is currently in high demand and pays very well. Once you have done your intensive plumbing training through an apprenticeship program or through technical and community colleges you can be on your way to a successful life.
